Download 40 MB PDF file for testing
Open the single page and check document-upload behavior. The preset is 40 MiB (41,943,040 bytes); choose MB for decimal megabytes.
1 MB = 1,000,000 B · 1 MiB = 1,048,576 B
Advanced: test an upload limit
Enter the byte limit above, then choose one byte below, the exact limit or one byte above. Each choice uses the same base: 41,943,040 B. Generate and download each file to test your endpoint.
Where a 40 MB PDF comes up
- Making sure your app offers a share link or upload instead of trying to attach a large report to an email.
- Testing bots and integrations that accept documents up to 50 MB.
- Reproducing request-size errors on servers whose limits sit between 30 and 40 MB.
Limits it lands on
- Gmail's 25 MB attachment limit is far exceeded; encoded for email the file is about 55.9 million bytes, more than Gmail's 50 MB limit for incoming messages too.
- Telegram's Bot API accepts multipart uploads up to 50 MB, so a bot can still send this document.
- IIS rejects it on default settings (maxAllowedContentLength 30,000,000 bytes), and it exceeds Cloud Run's 32 MiB HTTP/1 request limit.
What is inside the file
The page content is identical to the smaller PDFs: one A4 page with two lines of text in 722 structural bytes. The padding stream is 41,942,318 bytes.
The padding consists of the letter X repeated, so the file compresses almost entirely, which is useful for checking whether a gateway compresses uploads.
Questions
Can I send a 40 MB PDF with Gmail?
Not as an attachment. Gmail moves files over 25 MB into a Google Drive link. Other providers with 20–25 MB limits will refuse it.
Is GitHub OK with a 40 MB file?
Yes. It is under GitHub's 50 MiB warning and 100 MiB block, although the 25 MB browser uploader cannot take it.
