Advanced: test an upload limit

Enter the byte limit above, then choose one byte below, the exact limit or one byte above. Each choice uses the same base: 9,437,184 B. Generate and download each file to test your endpoint.

Where a 9 MB PDF comes up

  • Testing a "max 10 MB" upload rule with a file that should be accepted.
  • Confirming that a PHP endpoint still fails with this size unless post_max_size was raised.
  • Sharing a test document in Discord on a free account.
  • Pairing it with the 10 MB PDF in one suite: against a 10,000,000-byte rule, 9 MiB must pass and 10 MiB must be rejected.

Limits it lands on

  • It is under Discord's 10 MB file limit for accounts without Nitro and under API Gateway's 10 MB REST payload maximum.
  • Above PHP's 8M post_max_size default, so a stock PHP form loses the upload.

What is inside the file

Padding: 9,436,464 bytes inside one stream object. The page dictionary, Helvetica font reference and xref entries are untouched.

Downloaded as sample-9mb.pdf; generation happens in a Web Worker so the tab stays responsive.

Sent as a base64 JSON field it grows to about 12.58 million bytes, so an API that takes documents inline needs a body limit well above 10 MB even though the file itself is below it.

Questions

Is 9 MB under a "10 MB" limit everywhere?

Yes. Even if the service means 10,000,000 decimal bytes, 9,437,184 bytes is comfortably below it.

Why not just use the 10 MB file?

Ten megabytes sits on many boundaries; nine is the safe "should pass" counterpart.

Will a Spring Boot app accept it?

Not on defaults: max-file-size is 1MB. Raise it to 10MB and this upload fits, because the file plus multipart headers stays under the 10MB max-request-size.
