What happens to your file
Only the embedded JPEG image streams are re-encoded; page content, text and vector graphics are untouched. Document-level metadata, bookmarks and form fields are not carried over.
Known limitations
- Only JPEG-encoded embedded images are recompressed — PDFs whose images are stored as PNG aren't touched, so a PDF with only PNG images or no images at all won't shrink.
- Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are not supported.
- A PDF that's already tightly compressed, or has no embedded photos, may see little or no size reduction.

No. Compress PDF runs entirely in your browser using a Web Worker — the file never leaves your device.
What file types does this accept?
Compress PDF accepts PDF files.
Why didn't my PDF get any smaller?
This tool only recompresses embedded JPEG images. If your PDF has no images, or its images are already stored as PNG, there's nothing for it to shrink.
Will this affect text or vector graphics in the PDF?
No — only embedded JPEG image data is re-encoded. Text, fonts and vector graphics are left exactly as they were.
