What is YAML?

YAML ("YAML Ain't Markup Language") is a plain-text format for the same kind of structured data as JSON, written to be easier for humans to read and edit — indentation instead of braces, no required quotes on simple strings. It's common in configuration files (Docker Compose, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes) and is a superset of JSON: valid JSON is also valid YAML.
