What this covers

ByteRivet (https://byterivet.com) is a set of file tools: a test-file generator and a collection of image/PDF/conversion tools. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use them.

The tools themselves collect nothing

Most tools on this site — the test-file generator and most image, PDF and conversion tools — run entirely in your browser: files you generate, edit or convert are processed on your own device and never leave it, so there's no server-side copy of them at all. A small number of tools — currently Office to PDF and PDF to Office — need a real document engine that only a server can run, so they upload your file over HTTPS for processing; see "File-upload tools" below for exactly which ones, and how briefly the file is kept. Either way, no tool on this site collects or retains your files beyond what's needed to complete the job you asked for.

Cookies

The public site sets no cookies. There is no tracking script, no advertising pixel, and no third-party analytics embedded in any page.

Server logs

Like effectively every website, requests to this site pass through our hosting provider (Cloudflare), which retains standard connection-level logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp, requested URL) for a limited period for security and reliability purposes. We don't separately collect or store this information ourselves.

File-upload tools (where this differs)

Two tools — Office to PDF and PDF to Office — convert file types that can't be handled in a browser and require uploading the file to our server for processing. The source file is deleted immediately after conversion; the result is held only long enough for you to download it, and automatically deleted after 15 minutes either way. Every other tool on this site processes your file locally and never uploads it.

The contact form

Submitting the form at /contact/ is the one place on this site that does collect personal data: the name (optional) and email you enter, your message, the subject category and tool you selected, basic technical context (your browser and operating system, read from your browser — not fingerprinted or tracked), and a hashed (not plaintext) version of your IP address, kept briefly to prevent spam. This data is used only to respond to your request. Resolved tickets are retained for up to 12 months, then deleted, unless a longer period is required for security or legal reasons.

Your rights

Because most of this site's tools don't collect personal data, there's generally nothing to request access to or deletion of. If you've submitted the contact form and want your data corrected or removed sooner than the normal retention period, contact us using the details below and we'll respond.

Changes to this policy

If how this site handles data changes, this page will be updated and the date below will reflect that.
