Processed entirely in your browser using a Web Worker. Nothing is uploaded.
What is JSON?
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a plain-text format for structured data — objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans and null, nested as deeply as needed. It's the standard format for web APIs and configuration files, and every modern programming language can parse it natively.
What is YAML?
YAML ("YAML Ain't Markup Language") is a plain-text format for the same kind of structured data as JSON, written to be easier for humans to read and edit — indentation instead of braces, no required quotes on simple strings. It's common in configuration files (Docker Compose, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes) and is a superset of JSON: valid JSON is also valid YAML.
How it works
- Drop your JSON file into the box above, or click to choose one.
- Your browser parses it and rewrites it as YAML instantly — nothing is sent anywhere.
- Download the YAML file. That's it.

Questions.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser — your JSON file never leaves your device.
Does anything get lost converting to YAML?
No — YAML is a superset of JSON's data model, so every value, nested object and array carries over exactly.
Is there a file size limit?
No limit is enforced by the tool itself — the practical ceiling is your browser's available memory, which handles typical data files easily.
Is this really free?
Yes — every format conversion on ByteRivet is free, with no account or daily limit.
