About ByteRivet.

A toolkit for files — built the way we'd want to use it ourselves.

What ByteRivet is

ByteRivet is a browser-based toolkit for working with files: generating exact-size test files, converting between formats, and editing PDFs and images — built as fast, focused tools rather than one bloated do-everything app.

Why we built it

We kept running into the same wall: needing a file of a very specific size to test an upload limit, or a quick PDF merge, and finding every existing tool either buried the feature behind a signup wall, capped free use, or quietly uploaded files to a server we had no reason to trust. ByteRivet started as a fix for that one frustration — a test-file generator that ran entirely in the browser — and grew into a toolkit built on the same principle: do the job, stay out of the way.

What it solves

  • Testing upload limits and file validation without hunting for a sample file of the exact right size
  • Converting and editing PDFs and images without installing desktop software
  • Working with files without an account, a subscription, or a file ending up on someone else’s server when it doesn’t need to

The toolkit

Test File Generator

Set a size, pick a format, get an exact-byte file — PDF, PNG, ZIP, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, MP3 and more, assembled on your machine.

PDF Tools

Merge, split, organize and watermark PDFs entirely in the browser.

Image Tools

Compress, convert, crop, resize and rotate images without leaving the tab.

File Converters

Convert between images, PDFs and Office documents.

How processing works

Most tools here — the test-file generator, PDF tools, and image tools — run entirely in your browser using Web Workers. Nothing is uploaded, and the tool keeps working with your network switched off. A few conversions (Office documents to PDF and back) need a real document engine that can't run in a browser tab; those files are sent over HTTPS to a processing service, handled, and deleted afterward. We say which is which on every tool page, rather than one blanket claim that would be false for some of them.

Privacy and transparency

ByteRivet doesn't ask for an account, doesn't track you across sessions, and doesn't sell data — there isn't any to sell. What we do collect and how long anything touched by a server-side tool is retained is documented in full in our Privacy Policy.

Built for a global audience

ByteRivet is available in English, Turkish, Spanish, German and French, with every page — not just the interface chrome — translated and maintained per language.
