Where a 100 MB XLSX comes up
- Testing bulk-import screens that should refuse an oversized workbook before parsing it.
- Checking that a backend streams the uploaded ZIP package instead of loading it into memory.
- Verifying that file validators open the package to read [Content_Types].xml instead of trusting the .xlsx extension.
Limits it lands on
- Cloudflare Free and Pro plans refuse request bodies above 100 MB (decimal); 104,857,600 bytes exceeds that.
- GitHub blocks files above 100 MiB, so this workbook is exactly at the boundary for repository push hooks.
- A Google Forms upload question set to 100 MB uses the same nominal limit, so test this file against the actual form before you rely on it.
What is inside the file
The ZIP package uses the "stored" method (no compression) and contains six entries: [Content_Types].xml, _rels/.rels, xl/workbook.xml, xl/_rels/workbook.xml.rels, xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml and xl/media/pad.bin. The last entry contains the padding.
Sheet1 has only two cells: A1 contains the text "ByteRivet sample XLSX" and A2 contains the number 1048576. The A2 value is fixed and does not show the file size.

Questions
Will a spreadsheet library read 100 MB of rows?
No. There are only two cells. The parser should still open the ZIP archive, so it tests upload and package handling rather than row processing. Use the CSV generator for a large number of rows.
Does this package need ZIP64?
No. Every entry and the whole archive are well under the 4 GB limit of classic ZIP.
