Download 7 MB JPG image for testing
Preview the image and test your image-upload limit. The preset is 7 MiB (7,340,032 bytes); choose MB for decimal megabytes.
1 MB = 1,000,000 B · 1 MiB = 1,048,576 B
Advanced: test an upload limit
Enter the byte limit above, then choose one byte below, the exact limit or one byte above. Each choice uses the same base: 7,340,032 B. Generate and download each file to test your endpoint.
Where a 7 MB JPG comes up
- Diagnosing a PHP host where only upload_max_filesize or post_max_size has been raised.
- Testing image fields on sites that state "up to 8 MB" with a file comfortably below that line.
- Checking gallery and chat apps with a large but realistic high-resolution photo.
Limits it lands on
- PHP: the file plus multipart headers stays below the default post_max_size of 8M, but exceeds the default upload_max_filesize of 2M. If only the latter has been raised, this upload succeeds.
- Telegram's 10 MB sendPhoto limit and Discord's 10 MB free limit both leave room for it.
- It exceeds Lambda's 6 MB payload even before base64, and Vercel's 4.5 MB body limit.
What is inside the file
About 112 COM segments hold the padding. They come before the image data, so a decoder reads past them and draws the 800 × 600 picture normally.
The comment bytes are printable filler characters, not hidden text or EXIF data.
Questions
Why does PHP accept the request but discard the file?
When the request is under post_max_size but the file exceeds upload_max_filesize, PHP still runs the script but sets the file's error code to 1 (UPLOAD_ERR_INI_SIZE).
Can I make the JPEG contain real 7 MB of pixels?
Enter larger width and height values. The generator still pads to the exact size, but a larger picture takes up more of the file.
