Download 500 MB binary file for testing

Test transfer, storage or upload-size limits with raw bytes. The preset is 500 MiB (524,288,000 bytes); choose MB for decimal megabytes.

Advanced: test an upload limit

Enter the byte limit above, then choose one byte below, the exact limit or one byte above. Each choice uses the same base: 524,288,000 B. Generate and download each file to test your endpoint.

Where a 500 MB BIN comes up

  • Measuring real upload and download speed between two machines.
  • Testing a CDN or proxy upload cap on higher-tier plans.
  • Checking that chunked uploads resume after a dropped connection.

Limits it lands on

  • Cloudflare's Enterprise plan defaults to a 500 MB request body limit; since 500 MiB is 524,288,000 bytes, this file is just over a decimal 500 MB.
  • At 100 Mbit/s it takes about 42 seconds to transfer; at 1 Gbit/s about 4 seconds.

What is inside the file

A fixed 65,536-byte block of printable pseudo-random bytes, repeated with no header. gzip only reduces it to about 82%, but brotli and zstd with long windows can compress the repetition heavily, so turn off transfer compression for speed tests.

Saved as sample-500mb.bin.

Questions

Why .bin instead of .zip for speed tests?

There is no container to parse and no compression shortcut; the network has to carry every byte.

Does it contain anything executable?

No. It is filler bytes only.
